Natural

For consumers, a “natural” food label can have various meanings. The FDA does not currently have a definition for natural, but it allows manufacturers to use the term to describe foods that do not contain added color, artificial flavors or synthetic substances. The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Services requires meat and poultry labeled as “natural” to be a “product containing no artificial ingredient or added color and only minimally processed.” Any food manufacturer using the term “natural” on the label must state the meaning of the term on the product package.
